Chicago takes on Houston
We arrived Midway Airport bright and early to fly into Houston for the day to tour condos for our first Homes of Hope. In the weeks prior, we started to look at the area and saved condos we would be interested in touring. Some of our “must haves” included being as close as possible to MD Anderson, to make it even easier for those staying with us to have access to the hospital. We also prioritized 2-bedroom units, as we’ve learned how vital it is to have a support system with you while going through treatment. Having the condo be 2 bedrooms allows for caregivers, family and friends to offer support when its needed most.
We saw many different units, ranging from mid-rise buildings to townhomes, but ultimately felt at home with The Valencia. The condo is within walking distance, and the closest to MD Anderson, compared to the other units we toured. The space feels airy with tons of natural light, and an open floor plan where you can have meals but still spend time with family and friends in the family room. Other amazing amenities we are excited to offer patients and families include the gym and outdoor space for when they’re needing some fresh air.
We’re not done setting goals—soon we’ll be launching our registry with a goal to raise $5,000 to furnish the unit with all the comforts of home. We are so honored to have an opportunity to give a place of comfort and peace to patients getting treated for pancreatic cancer at MD Anderson.
