Meet Daniel, Our October Guest at Homes of Hope!
My name is Kristin, my husband Daniel and I just recently celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary. We have a 12 year old pre teen girl, a 5 year old sassy girl and a 3 year old “all boy” little boy! We have had the most fulfilling life. We love to play outside with our kids, go to the zoo and just be with family.
On February 19, 2023 our life was completely turned upside down. I had take my husband to Fort Worth (almost 2 hrs from where we live) to Baylor Scott and White emergency room. After blood work and scans they came in and told us that he had a tumor the size of a lemon in the head of his pancreas. The news was hard to digest but we knew it would be fine, he’s young and in good shape, we will just get it taken care of. 5 days later, after doing a biopsy of a spot in his liver they came in and told us that it was stage 4 pancreatic cancer and may only have a year or so to live. There is absolutely nothing that can prepare you for those words. It was without a doubt the hardest day of our life! We were immediately sad, that sadness became anger and that anger then fueled the fire for us to be strong and push through!
My husband did 10 sessions of chemo. Every two weeks we drove to Fort Worth to start his session, we would stay 6 hrs and he would come home, he would be connected to his chemo for 3 days, on Wednesday afternoons I would disconnect his chemo from his port. July 3rd was his last chemo session. On august 6th we would move our family to Houston for Daniel to start his radiation treatment. He would under go 5 days a week for 5 weeks of radiation. After radiation we would come back home for 5 short weeks before going back to Houston to undergo what would be the hardest thing we have ever done.
Daniel was approved for the wipple procedure due to the way his cancer was responding to treatment, his age and his overall health before the cancer. Daniel will have his procedure on October 31st.
Our family is forever grateful for the drs and our team at MD Anderson, without our team, we would not be where we are, Daniel has been given a chance of a lifetime, he has been given the opportunity to teach our oldest to drive, he has been given the opportunity to go to Daddy-Daughter Dances, he has been given the opportunity to see his son go through Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts, and last but certainly not least he has been given the opportunity to fulfill his wedding vows.
Homes of Hope has given us an amazing gift. We are beyond grateful that our children are able to stay at a place that they can call home for a while. We are so appreciative to all the donors for Homes of Hope.
Thank you for all your love, prayers and support,
Daniel, Kristin, Heidi, Stella & Dawson Glenn
